Rabat – Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P) and the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) have signed an agreement seeking to boost their commitment toward supporting the talent and innovation ecosystem in Africa.
UM6P said in a statement earlier this week that the signing of the agreement reinforces the two parties’ partnership, reflecting their shared ambition to connect education, research, and innovation with the goal of sustainability.
The ultimate objective is to contribute to Morocco’s and Africa’s economic, technological, and societal transformation.
Hicham El Habti, President of UM6P, emphasized the importance of the partnership with BCG, which is in line with the school’s commitment to knowledge creation and innovation.
“We believe that knowledge creation cannot be separated from its capacity to transform economic, social, and environmental realities,” El Habti said.
He added that the partnership with BCG follows this logic to create strong interfaces between research, education, and action to enable solutions that are “grounded in African contexts.”
The goal for El Habti is to “structure ecosystems where these talents can design, test, and deploy responses to the continent’s challenges.”
Managing director and senior partner at BCG Casablanca, Hamid Maher, echoed the same sentiment, describing the partnership between the two parties as a “true model of strategic partnership.”
Describing UM6P as a leading academic institution, Maher said the new chapter allows both parties to intensify their commitment to developing African talent.
Nearly 100 UM6P graduates joined BCG and its technology arm, BCG X, over the past three years.
This positions the university as a recognized talent pool for BCG in Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Africa, according to a statement from UM6P.
In 2023, UM6P and BCG X signed an agreement to tackle pressing contemporary challenges, including food security as well as climate and sustainability issues.
The agreement is part of the two parties’ commitment to strengthening their partnership by promoting and empowering African tech talents.
Today, the two parties have renewed this commitment, with a new accord that seeks to focus on several areas, like research and innovation applied to African challenges and strengthening international cooperation.
In its new statement, UM6P said the partnership between the two parties materialized through over 20 events organized on the Benguerir and Rabat campuses. It also recalled the establishment of BCG offers in the Benguerir campus to enable daily interactions with students.
“These achievements demonstrate that beyond the numbers, the partnership has supported the emergence of a new generation of African talent, trained to international standards and engaged in strategic challenges,” UM6P said.
The new agreement enables both UM6P and BCG to enter a new phase of cooperation to focus on priorities aimed at strengthening an academic-industrial partnership model in Africa and beyond.
