The board of Kawkab Marrakech has referred head coach Hicham Damai to the club’s ethics committee following an internal incident, just four days before a key league clash against Wydad AC in the 16th round of Botola Pro D1.

The decision comes amid rising tensions within the club, with the internal divisions having been intensified by a statement from president Idriss Hanifa, who took issue with the events that led to the disciplinary move.

According to the president’s official statement, the incident occurred during a team trip as the squad was traveling by bus for a match in the Throne Cup. Hanifa stated that he personally called the coach to check on the team’s conditions and ensure that all logistical arrangements were in place before the fixture.

However, during the phone conversation, reportedly held on speaker inside the bus, Damai allegedly reacted aggressively, raising his voice and using inappropriate language directed at the president. The statement describes the coach’s behavior as “hysterical” and lacking respect, especially as the exchange took place in front of players, technical staff, and even the bus driver.

The president further claimed that the coach’s conduct crossed professional boundaries, with insults and verbal outbursts that shocked those present. Several members of the squad reportedly expressed discomfort and disapproval, considering the behavior inconsistent with the club’s values and image.

Hanifa emphasized that such actions were unacceptable, particularly given the need for discipline and unity within the team. He added that the club’s management could not overlook the incident, leading to the formal referral of the coach to the ethics committee.

Pending further review of the case, Damai expected to present his version of events before a final decision is made.

This development places Kawkab Marrakech in a delicate position ahead of their upcoming fixture against Wydad AC, scheduled for Saturday evening at the Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Both the sporting result and the outcome of the disciplinary process are likely to shape the club’s immediate future.
