Rabat – Real Madrid have officially confirmed the injury of Kylian Mbappé, putting an end to days of speculation and providing the first clear medical diagnosis following his exit against Real Betis.
In a statement released on April 27, the club announced:
“Following the tests carried out today on our player Kylian Mbappé by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left leg. Awaiting progress.”
A clearer diagnosis, but no timeline
The confirmation of a semitendinosus muscle injury, part of the hamstring group, clarifies the nature of the issue that forced Mbappé off late in Madrid’s 1-1 draw. However, the club deliberately avoided specifying a recovery timeline, leaving his return date uncertain.
This type of injury can vary significantly in severity, ranging from minor strains requiring a couple of weeks of rest to more serious cases that can sideline players for longer periods.
Season in serious doubt
While the official statement remains cautious, it inevitably strengthens the narrative pushed by sections of the Spanish media. Figures like Josep Pedrerol had already claimed that Mbappé would not play again this season, a view that now appears far more plausible given the confirmed muscle injury.
With only a handful of La Liga matches remaining and FC Barcelona leading the title race, the risk of rushing back may outweigh the benefits for both player and club.
