Rabat – The 10th edition of the Moulay El Hassan Para-Athletics Grand Prix concluded this weekend at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, cementing Morocco’s reputation as a rising powerhouse in the world of disability sports.

Competing against elite athletes from across the globe, the Moroccan delegation secured a prestigious third-place finish in the overall standings.

The event brought together over 500 athletes representing 58 nations. Morocco’s performance was characterized by both depth and consistency, as the national team amassed a total of 31 medals: 8 gold, 16 silver, and 7 bronze.

The final medal standings

Morocco’s podium finish is particularly significant given the caliber of international competition present in Rabat. Brazil dominated the event to take first place, with 57 medals, followed by China in second, 34 medals.

Platform for new talent

Hamid El Aouni, President of the Royal Moroccan Federation of Sports for Persons with Disabilities (FRMSPSH), expressed immense pride in the results. He noted that while the veterans performed as expected, the Grand Prix served as a vital “detection ground” for young Moroccan talent.

The 2026 edition provided a unique opportunity for emerging athletes to compete against world title holders and improve their international rankings ahead of future Paralympic cycles.

The transition of the event from Marrakech to the newly built facilities of the Olympic Stadium in Rabat was also hailed as a success, providing world-class conditions for the 120 track and field events held over the three-day competition.

Strategic growth

With nearly 100 referees and 150 volunteers supporting the event, the Grand Prix highlighted Morocco’s organizational excellence. This third-place finish is not just a victory in numbers but a reflection of the sustained national momentum in para-athletics, positioning Morocco as a leading African and global contender in the sport.
