Rabat – Morocco has presented its migration policy at the United Nations, showing a model based on leadership by example and the effective implementation of the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration, adopted in Marrakech in 2018.
The country presented its achievements and best practices in migration governance during the second International Migration Review Forum, taking place from May 5 to 8.
Morocco said its policy is based on a proactive and voluntary approach, focused on putting its commitments under the Marrakech migration framework into action.
The country shared a set of publications outlining its detailed work in strategies, public policies, and operational programs, all aligned with the 23 objectives of the global migration compact.
These initiatives cover several key areas, including humanizing border management, improving migrants’ access to health and education services, supporting their socio-economic inclusion, and facilitating access to employment.
Morocco’s approach is guided by the directives of King Mohammed VI, who emphasized in a royal message to the 2018 intergovernmental conference that the global compact is meaningful only if it is fully implemented in practice.
In recognition of these efforts, the International Organization for Migration identified more than 100 good practices Morocco has developed in the field of migration management.
As a result, Morocco was invited to share its experience during the forum, which strengthens its role as an engaged actor and a contributor to international discussions on migration governance.
