Rabat – Police in Fez arrested a 41-year-old man today on suspicion of involvement in a criminal network active in drug trafficking and psychotropic substances.
The arrest followed intelligence from the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), which led the regional judicial police to coordinate with security services in Kenitra. The suspect was intercepted shortly after boarding a freight truck used to transport goods.
A search of the vehicle uncovered a concealed shipment of cannabis resin, known locally as chira, hidden inside modified metal structures with secret cavities.Â
Authorities reported a total seizure of around four tons, a quantity that points to a large-scale trafficking operation.
Security services placed the suspect in custody under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor. Investigators continue their work to identify possible collaborators and map out the full extent of the network.
Officials said the operation reflects ongoing national efforts by security services and the DGST to disrupt drug trafficking routes and curb the spread of illegal psychotropic substances.
