FC Barcelona has reportedly officially contacted Real Betis to inquire about the situation of Moroccan international Abdessamad Ezzalzouli ahead of the summer transfer window.
According to Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan club has opened discussions as sporting director Deco evaluates attacking reinforcements for next season, with Ezzalzouli being one of the names under consideration.
The Moroccan winger has enjoyed the most productive season of his career in Andalusia.
Under Manuel Pellegrini, Abde Ezzalzouli truly came alive as a driving force in Betis’s attack. He completely ran the show for Betis, finishing the year with a great stat line of 14 goals and 13 assists.
Those performances helped Real Betis secure a historic return to the UEFA Champions League after a 21-year absence and significantly raised the player’s profile across Europe.
His consistency appears to have convinced Deco to explore a potential return for a player who previously developed at La Masia.

Financial details could shape negotiations
The transfer situation remains far from straightforward. When Betis signed Ezzalzouli in 2023 for €7.3 million, Barcelona reportedly retained a 20% sell-on clause for any future transfer.
The Moroccan is under contract until June 2029, and his deal includes a €60 million release clause. Reports suggest Betis would only consider opening discussions starting around €40 million.
Barcelona, however, is not believed to see Ezzalzouli as their top attacking target.
Mundo Deportivo reports that the club is also tracking other options, including Anthony Gordon, and would likely only move for Ezzalzouli if favorable financial conditions appear.
One major factor could make negotiations difficult. Betis recently secured qualification for next season’s Champions League, strengthening their position and making it harder to part ways with one of the club’s key players.
Betis now has a strong sporting argument to keep him. Barcelona may also face serious competition from England. Reports indicate both Newcastle United and Aston Villa have closely monitored Ezzalzouli in recent months, with scouts attending matches in Spain.
For now, Barcelona have only taken the first step. But after a breakout season, Ezzalzouli is rapidly becoming one of the more closely watched names heading into the summer market.
