Rabat – AS FAR has called on its supporters to respect the rules and regulations ahead of the second leg of the CAF Champions League final against Mamelodi Sundowns.
In an official statement, the club revealed that a security and organizational meeting was held in coordination with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the competent authorities.
AS FAR urged fans not to use flares, fireworks, or any prohibited materials inside the stadium or in its surroundings.
The club also warned supporters against entering the pitch during the match. Fans were asked to remain in their designated seats and avoid blocking stadium corridors and stairways.
AS FAR further stressed the importance of not throwing objects onto the field during the final.
The club also prohibited the use of laser pointers inside the stadium.
Supporters were additionally urged not to raise banners containing political, religious, or offensive messages, in line with CAF regulations.
Final’s controversy
The statement comes amid growing controversy surrounding the CAF Champions League final between AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns.
In recent days, tensions escalated after Mamelodi Sundowns’ official page posted a promotional poster that shows the map of Morocco without its Sahara. The image caused a backlash, only to be deleted afterwards and replaced by a poster that does not contain a map at all.
The controversy began after a peaceful group of AS FAR supporters who were proudly displaying a banner reading “Morocco” were attacked by local South African supporters, distressingly aided by local police forces, violently attempting to tear the banner down.
Discipline despite everything
Despite the heated atmosphere surrounding the final, AS FAR emphasized the importance of discipline and sportsmanship ahead of the decisive continental showdown.
The Moroccan side expressed confidence in the awareness and loyalty of its supporters, describing the final as a historic opportunity to reflect a positive image of Moroccan football before the African audience.
