Rabat – The National Road Safety Agency (NARSA) has urged all road users to exercise caution and take all preventive measures amid heavy traffic due to the Eid Al Adha holiday.
In a notice today, NARSA announced an increasing demand for intercity public transportation, which constitutes an essential service for citizens’ mobility.
It urged all passengers to wear seatbelts and to comply with road safety rules, calling on travelers to book their tickets in advance and to place their luggage in designated storage areas.
It also called on drivers of all types of vehicles, especially taxi drivers and passenger buses, freight trucks, and private car drivers, to act responsibly and respect traffic laws.
The agency also urged drivers to ensure maintenance and technical inspection of their vehicles before using the road.
NARSA also called on drivers to get enough rest before driving, and urged them to plan their trip to avoid potential risks.
Due to the heat, NARSA called on drivers to adjust speed according to weather and road conditions and maintain a safe distance inside and outside urban areas.
Morocco is gearing up to celebrate Eid Al Adha on Wednesday, May 27. Ahead of Eid, many – including students – travel back to their hometowns to celebrate the feast with their families.
Eid Al Adha is one of the most important religious feasts in Islam, commemorating the devotion and willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to God.
NARSA’s notice comes amid a high number of traffic accidents in Morocco.
Several traffic incidents took place just recently, claiming multiple lives.
Recent statistics from Moroccan police said 19 people were killed and 2,569 people were injured, including 97 seriously, and 1,887 road traffic accidents between February and March.
