Rabat – Ayyoub Bouaddi took to social media to celebrate his historic World Cup call-up by national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi, while proudly honoring his dual heritage.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who previously represented France at the youth level, penned an emotional letter expressing gratitude to both nations while fully committing himself to writing a successful next chapter with the Atlas Lions.
“A dream come true, but above all the start of a new chapter, with even more work, rigor, and responsibilities,” Bouaddi wrote on Tuesday.
“I am aware of the privilege I have to defend these colors, and I will give everything to represent my country in the best possible way.” While fully committing his future to the Atlas Lions, the highly-rated youngster also looked back on his time in the French national youth setup. Having represented France during his development years, Bouaddi made sure to address his dual background with immense respect.
“A thought also for France. My choice in no way diminishes the pride and gratitude for having been able to wear that jersey in my youth.”
The Lille midfielder officially chose Morocco over France in mid-May 2026. After FIFA approved his switch on May 15, he was immediately included in Mohamed Ouahbi’s final World Cup squad and has already joined the team’s training camp.
He concluded his message by emphasizing pride in his dual nationality and his roots. “I am and will always remain proud of my dual culture, my journey, and my roots.” After thanking his followers for their “messages and support,” Bouaddi looked ahead to the tournament, declaring, “Now it’s up to us to write the next chapter.”
