Rabat – Bayern Munich have officially announced the signing of Moroccan international Ismael Saibari. The Bundesliga champions confirmed the midfielder’s arrival on Tuesday, bringing an end to weeks of speculation surrounding one of the summer’s biggest transfers.
The 25-year-old joins Bayern from PSV Eindhoven in a deal reportedly worth €55 million, making him one of the most expensive Moroccan footballers in history.
Saibari leaves PSV after establishing himself as one of the Eredivisie’s standout midfielders. His technical ability, creativity, and versatility made him a key figure for the Dutch club, while his performances also earned him a regular place with the Moroccan national team.
Outstanding Performance in the World Cup
Saibari arrives at Bayern Munich after enjoying one of the finest spells of his career, capped by a remarkable FIFA World Cup campaign with Morocco.
The 25-year-old emerged as one of the breakout stars of the tournament, scoring in all three of Morocco’s group-stage matches to help the Atlas Lions finish second in Group C behind Brazil on goal difference and secure a place in the knockout rounds. His run included a goal against Brazil in the opening match, a decisive strike against Scotland, and another goal against Haiti.
His goal against Scotland came after just 71 seconds, making it the fastest goal of the tournament at the time and Morocco’s quickest-ever goal at a FIFA World Cup. The strike also made Saibari the first Moroccan player to score in consecutive World Cup matches, earning him the Player of the Match award.
Saibari continued to deliver in the Round of 32 against the Netherlands. After a hard-fought 1-1 draw, he calmly converted the decisive penalty in the shootout, sending Morocco into the Round of 16 and setting up a clash with co-hosts Canada. His composure under pressure further cemented his status as one of the tournament’s standout performers.
His performances throughout the World Cup significantly raised his profile, with Bayern Munich completing his transfer shortly after the Atlas Lions’ qualification for the Round of 16. The move reflects the German champions’ confidence that one of the tournament’s brightest stars is ready to make the step to one of Europe’s biggest clubs
