Agadir – Falcon Energy Materials plc has opened its pilot plant near Casablanca, marking a key milestone in the development of battery-grade graphite materials production in Morocco.
“Falcon Energy Materials plc is pleased to announce the opening of its pilot plant near Casablanca, Morocco,” the company announced.
In a press release issued today, the company said the facility is the first natural graphite coated spheronized purified graphite (CSPG) pilot plant in Morocco and will support the development of its proposed commercial-scale anode production facility with an annual capacity of 25,000 tonnes.
The pilot plant follows the relocation and installation of a fully assembled and pre-commissioned processing line in Morocco. Falcon said commissioning of the facility is currently underway.
The company expects the plant to begin producing qualification-scale CSPG samples during the summer of this year for potential customers, including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and battery producers. The samples will be used as part of customer qualification programs already underway.
Beyond sample production, Falcon said the pilot facility will generate operational and process design data needed for the engineering of its planned commercial anode plant. The facility will also serve as a training center for future plant operators, helping prepare the workforce ahead of commercial production.
‘A defining milestone for Falcon’
Operating the pilot plant will allow it to optimize key stages of the CSPG production process while establishing design criteria that will support the engineering and future commercialization of the larger facility, noted the company’s statement.
It said the plant will process premium natural graphite feedstock sourced from Africa and produce materials tailored to customer specifications. Falcon further pledged to continue to evaluate multiple high-quality graphite sources to ensure a scalable and reliable supply chain as production expands.
“The opening of our Pilot Plant in Morocco is a defining milestone for Falcon. It marks our transition from planning and procurement to operational execution and advances our goal of building a competitive battery anode supply chain outside of China,” said Matthieu Bos, President and CEO of Falcon Energy Materials.
“This facility allows us to produce qualification-scale CSPG samples for potential customers while generating the operating knowledge, workforce experience and process data that will de-risk and accelerate the development of our commercial Anode Plant.”
The announcement comes as Morocco continues to attract investment across the electric vehicle battery value chain, leveraging its strategic location, growing industrial ecosystem, and access to critical minerals required for battery manufacturing.
