Agadir – Morocco’s professional football championship has reached a new financial benchmark, with the Botola Pro’s overall budget climbing to MAD 965 million ($103.2 million) as the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) outlined a series of reforms.
During a meeting of the FRMF Steering Committee on Friday at the federation’s headquarters, officials reviewed the performance of Morocco’s professional leagues and discussed measures designed to modernize the domestic football ecosystem.
Among the key decisions adopted during the meeting was a new policy allowing Botola matches to be postponed when a club has more than three players called up to represent Morocco’s national teams.
The measure seeks to protect competitive balance by ensuring clubs are not disadvantaged during league fixtures because of multiple international call-ups.
FRMF President Fouzi Lekjaa presented the federation’s roadmap for the next stage of professional football reform.
The plan places greater emphasis on strengthening the autonomy of Morocco’s national leagues while maintaining coordination with the federation and ensuring compliance with existing regulations.
As part of this effort, the leagues are expected to relocate to new headquarters before the end of 2026.
The federation also plans to enhance matchday organization through updated operational standards and a new framework for supporter management, with a focus on improving stadium security, fan services, and the overall match experience.
Lekjaa stressed the importance of expanding age-group competitions and strengthening player development pathways to facilitate the transition from youth football to professional clubs and Morocco’s national teams.
He also called for new mechanisms to help clubs better manage and develop young players, particularly those selected for national team duty.
To support these reforms, the federation plans to hold consultation meetings bringing together the LNFP, club executives, coaches, the National Technical Directorate, and national team staff to coordinate future development initiatives.
