Agadir – The ex-wife of Mehdi Hijaouy has publicly rejected claims made by her ex-husband’s French legal team, which alleged she was the target of surveillance in Paris.
Hijaouy, a former official in Morocco’s foreign intelligence service, is the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Moroccan authorities in connection with charges including fraud, facilitating illegal immigration, and money laundering.
Sara, his ex-wife, also distanced herself from both Hijaouy’s allegations contained in a recent press release issued on his behalf.
Some reports have alleged that Hijaouy is part of an international criminal network involved in various illegal activities.
His legal team has alleged that the proceedings against him are politically motivated, claims that Moroccan authorities have refuted.
In a statement released following a July 16 press release by French lawyers William Bourdon and Vincent Brengarth, Sara, Hijaouy’s former wife, said the lawyers’account contained “nothing more than a series of false allegations” and denied filing a complaint with French police over alleged surveillance linked to Moroccan authorities.
The denial comes after Bourdon and Brengarth claimed that Hijaouy and his family had been subjected to a campaign of judicial pressure and media attacks, alleging that surveillance operations targeted several individuals, including his former wife.
According to the lawyers’ claims, incidents involving the alleged surveillance were reported to Paris police, with the defense suggesting possible links to Moroccan authorities.
Sara firmly rejected the allegations, stating: “I have never filed any complaint with the District Police Station in Paris alleging that I was the target of surveillance or monitoring by individuals linked to the Moroccan authorities.”
She also emphasized that she had no knowledge of the nature of Hijaouy’s activities during their marriage and has had no relationship with him since their divorce.
“I also affirm that I was never aware of the nature of the activities carried out by my former husband, Mehdi Hijaouy, and that I have completely severed all ties and associations with him since the date of our divorce,” the statement reads.
Sara further distanced herself from audio recordings attributed to Hijaouy that have circulated in recent weeks, saying she had no involvement in their release.
“With regard to the audio recordings attributed to my former husband, which were leaked in recent weeks and which could harm the image of my country, I confirm that I have no connection whatsoever to those recordings, directly or indirectly,” she said.
Concluding her statement, she reaffirmed her loyalty to Morocco and its institutions.
“I reiterate, in the clearest terms, my deep loyalty to His Majesty the King, my homeland Morocco, and its constitutional institutions. I also affirm that I have no intention of undertaking any action or initiative that could undermine the image, reputation, or interests of my country.”
