Rabat – Police in Mohammedia reportedly arrested Algerian raï singer Reda Taliani on Thursday night after he allegedly caused a road accident in the city while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Footage shared online showed police officers escorting the singer into a National Security vehicle shortly after the incident.
Authorities have not yet released an official statement detailing the circumstances of the crash or confirmed whether formal charges have been filed.
The arrest marks the latest in a string of legal troubles involving the artist, who has lived in Morocco for several years.
In 2017, Tunisian authorities arrested him in Hammamet after he was reportedly found in possession of cocaine.
Three years later, Moroccan police detained Taliani following a serious traffic accident near Mohammedia in which he was allegedly driving while intoxicated.
In January 2021, he was arrested again in Dubai on suspicion of public intoxication and drug possession.
More recently, in 2025, the singer was arrested after a dispute in a Marrakech neighborhood. Prosecutors later opted to release him pending trial, with the case involving allegations of mutual assault, public drunkenness, and incitement to prostitution.
It remains unclear whether Taliani will remain in custody as the investigation into Thursday’s incident continues.
Authorities have not yet disclosed when he is expected to appear before prosecutors.
