Agadir – Morocco will host the 9th General Congress of the Arab Union of Electricity (AUE) in Rabat from March 23 to 25, 2027, bringing together energy leaders, policymakers, and industry experts from across the Arab world to discuss the future of electricity systems and the region’s energy transition.

The Arab Union of Electricity (AUE), in partnership with Morocco’s National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), announced that the three-day congress will serve as a platform for dialogue and knowledge sharing on the key challenges facing the electricity sector in Arab countries.

Held under the theme “The Future of Electrical Systems in Arab Countries,” the event will focus on strategic issues shaping the sector, including the resilience and security of electricity systems, digital transformation and artificial intelligence applications, renewable energy integration, energy storage technologies, and workforce development.

According to ONEE, discussions will also highlight the role of specialized media in supporting the energy sector’s development.

The congress will be accompanied by an international exhibition featuring major companies, institutions, and manufacturers specializing in electricity generation, transmission, and distribution technologies, alongside providers of innovative energy solutions.

Organizers said the exhibition aims to showcase technological advances while fostering partnerships among stakeholders across the industry.

Commenting on Morocco’s selection as host, ONEE Director General Tarik Hamane said the event reflects the Kingdom’s growing leadership in the energy sector.

“The organization of this 9th edition in Morocco testifies to the leading position the Kingdom now occupies, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in the energy and energy transition sectors,” Hamane said in the statement.

He added that hosting the congress confirms Morocco’s role as “an energy hub between the Arab world, Africa, and Europe” and demonstrates the country’s commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation.

Hamane also stressed the importance of closer collaboration as the electricity sector undergoes significant transformation.

“This congress reflects the shared commitment to strengthening regional cooperation to support the profound changes taking place in the electricity sector,” he said.

Hamane noted that the energy transition, large-scale renewable energy integration, grid digitalization, and advances in storage and flexibility technologies require greater knowledge sharing, innovation, and partnerships to build more resilient, efficient, and sustainable electricity systems.

The Arab Union of Electricity is one of the region’s leading organizations specializing in electricity and energy. It brings together public and private stakeholders, including utilities, companies, organizations, and universities, representing 19 Arab countries.
