Rabat – Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) has issued an updated orange-level weather alert warning of a heatwave, thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds in several parts of the country from Wednesday through Friday.
Temperatures are expected to range between 44 and 47 degrees Celsius from Wednesday to Friday in the provinces and prefectures of Errachidia, Taroudant, Zagora, Tata, Assa-Zag, Smara, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd.
The heatwave is also expected to affect Essaouira on Wednesday, with temperatures ranging between 39 and 42 degrees Celsius.
The DGM also warned of thunderstorms bringing between 20 and 35 millimeters of rainfall, along with hail and strong wind gusts, in several regions on Wednesday.
The affected areas include Midelt, Boulemane, Beni Mellal, Azilal, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, and Zagora.
The thunderstorms are expected to begin at 1 p.m. and continue until 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
The weather authority urged residents in the affected areas to remain cautious and follow official weather updates.
Morocco experienced high temperatures in recent weeks, with many residents seeking relief from the heat by heading to beaches, swimming pools, and other cooler areas.
Coastal cities, especially Agadir, have seen large crowds during the summer season as families and young people travel to the seaside to escape the intense heat affecting inland regions.
Beaches have become particularly busy during weekends, while many Moroccans have also chosen to travel at night or spend more time indoors during the hottest hours of the day.
