Rabat – Moroccan authorities have arrested two French nationals of Moroccan origin over their alleged involvement in a fight in the northeastern city of Saidia that left one person dead and three others injured.
The two suspects, aged 31 and 34, were arrested Tuesday evening at the Beni Ansar border crossing in Nador as they were allegedly attempting to leave Morocco in a vehicle with French license plates, Morocco’s national security said.
Nador security officers carried out the arrests at the border crossing in coordination with their counterparts in Saidia.
According to preliminary findings, the two suspects, along with two other people, are suspected of assaulting four members of the Moroccan community living abroad in Saidia.
The incident took place in the early hours of Tuesday after a dispute broke out between the two groups as they were leaving the Marina parking area in Saidia.
The dispute escalated into a physical fight, resulting in serious injuries to one of the victims. He was taken to hospital but later died from his injuries.
The three other victims were also injured and received medical treatment before being discharged from the hospital.
The two arrested suspects have been placed in police custody as part of a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances and motives behind the incident and to identify the two other suspects who were allegedly involved in the assault.
Efforts are underway to arrest the two remaining suspects and bring them before justice.
