Rabat – Wydad Athletic Club goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid could face disciplinary action from Morocco’s Professional League following footage circulating on social media that allegedly shows him using offensive language during his team’s match against Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi.
According to Radio Mars, the league is preparing a disciplinary file and a formal complaint over the incident, which reportedly occurred during Wydad’s recent encounter with Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi in the 2026-2027 Botola Pro season.
The matter has reportedly attracted the attention of the league’s authorities as they seek to address unsporting conduct in Moroccan football.
According to the reports, the referee’s report, the match delegate’s observations and video footage could be submitted to the relevant disciplinary and ethics committee for review.
Benabid could face a suspension or financial penalty if the competent authorities establish a violation. However, no official sanction has been announced, and the outcome will depend on the disciplinary process.

Benabid has reportedly received no official notice
Despite the reports of potential disciplinary proceedings, sources close to the Wydad goalkeeper have indicated that he has not received any official notification concerning a complaint.
Radio Mars also reported that Benabid has continued training normally at Wydad’s Benjelloun training complex while remaining focused on his sporting commitments.
The absence of an official notification leaves the situation unresolved as Wydad await further developments.
The case also raises questions about how footage circulating on social media may be assessed alongside official match reports when disciplinary authorities examine alleged misconduct.
Moroccan league intensifies disciplinary measures
Benabid’s case comes amid several disciplinary incidents involving players and officials in Moroccan football.
Moroccan media have also reported potential proceedings involving Marouane Ouhrou of Maghreb Fes following an incident during his team’s recent match against Raja Club Athletic.
Other cases cited in coverage of the league’s disciplinary measures include incidents involving Wydad Temara player Othmane Sabri and Ittihad Tanger goalkeeper Badr Eddine Abair.
The cases reflect increased scrutiny of conduct on the pitch, although each incident remains subject to its own assessment by the relevant authorities.
For Wydad, any suspension involving Benabid could affect the team’s plans for upcoming Botola Pro fixtures. The goalkeeper’s immediate disciplinary status, however, remains unconfirmed pending an official announcement.
Until the league or its disciplinary committee issues a formal decision, the reports of a possible suspension should be treated as allegations rather than a confirmed punishment.
