Agadir – Moroccan police arrested a 22-year-old Swedish national in Agadir on Tuesday evening, October 13, after authorities identified him as the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by Sweden.
The arrest followed information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), according to a statement from the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN).
Police detained the suspect in the Talborjt neighborhood of Agadir. A check of the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) databases confirmed that he was wanted internationally under a red notice issued at the request of Swedish judicial authorities.
Sweden seeks to enforce a prison sentence against the suspect in connection with cases involving drug trafficking, attempted murder, and participation in a criminal gang, the statement said.
Following the arrest, authorities placed the Swedish national under extradition proceedings on the instructions of the competent public prosecutor’s office.
The National Central Bureau of Interpol in Rabat, which operates under the DGSN, notified its Swedish counterpart of the arrest as part of the extradition process.
The DGSN said the arrest reflects Morocco’s continued cooperation with international security partners and its efforts to track down individuals wanted internationally in connection with cross-border crime.
