Rabat – German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig continues to monitor Moroccan international Samir El Morabet, who currently plays for Racing Strasbourg, according to sports website Le Transfer.
The report said Leipzig had already shown serious interest in the 20-year-old midfielder during the summer transfer window, with discussions reportedly taking place between the German and French clubs in August.
El Morabet was reportedly open to a move to Germany, but Strasbourg ultimately decided to keep the young midfielder for the new season.
Following the breakdown of the talks, Leipzig turned its attention to another Moroccan midfielder, Neil El Aynaoui, whom the German club signed from AS Roma.
However, El Morabet remains on Leipzig’s radar, according to the same source. The report added that a possible move during the January transfer window could require a significant financial investment.
The French club is reportedly valuing the Moroccan midfielder at around €35 million. El Morabet is under contract with Strasbourg until June 2030, giving the club a strong position in any potential negotiations.
Breakthrough season in Strasbourg
El Morabet has quickly established himself as an important player for Strasbourg after making the step up to professional football.
The midfielder came through Strasbourg’s youth system and signed his first professional contract before becoming a regular part of the senior squad during the 2025-26 season.
Under English coach Liam Rosenior, El Morabet played 48 matches across all competitions last season. His performances also included an important contribution in the UEFA Conference League, where he scored four goals.
His involvement in European competition gave the young midfielder additional exposure while helping him gain experience at a higher level.
His performances at club level also contributed to his emergence on the international stage with Morocco.
World Cup experience
El Morabet was part of Morocco’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the Atlas Lions reached the quarterfinals.
The tournament provided the young midfielder with further international experience and added to his growing profile.
At only 20 years old, his combination of club and international experience has attracted attention from clubs outside France, with Leipzig among those monitoring his situation.
