Casablanca – Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Kuwait have reaffirmed their support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and its Autonomy Plan for the Sahara in statements before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
Saudi Arabia reiterated its support for the Moroccan autonomy initiative under Moroccan sovereignty, describing it as a path toward ending the regional dispute over the Sahara. Its representative said the plan had received praise from the Security Council and complied with international law, the UN Charter and relevant resolutions of the Security Council and General Assembly.
Riyadh also backed Morocco’s efforts to reach a realistic political solution based on consensus and relevant Security Council resolutions. The Saudi representative called on all concerned parties to show wisdom, realism and a spirit of consensus, adding that resolving the conflict would contribute to regional security and stability.

Bahrain also reaffirmed its longstanding support for Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. Its representative said Manama backed Morocco’s efforts to reach a realistic, pragmatic and lasting political solution based on the Moroccan autonomy initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2797.
Qatar renewed its support for the initiative, describing it as constructive and an objective basis for any realistic and lasting solution to the Sahara issue.
The Qatari representative also backed the UN secretary-general’s efforts to facilitate a lasting and mutually acceptable political solution through the UN-led political process. Doha stressed that the process should follow Security Council resolutions, particularly Resolution 2797, while guaranteeing Morocco’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Kuwait likewise reiterated its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan for the Southern Provinces and welcomed the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2797.
Speaking before the Fourth Committee, Kuwait’s representative called for negotiations to continue in good faith to facilitate a definitive political solution and strengthen security and stability across the region.
Morocco has also supported Gulf security through diplomatic mediation, military cooperation and direct expressions of solidarity. During the 2017 Gulf crisis, King Mohammed VI backed Kuwait’s mediation efforts to resolve the dispute between Qatar and its Gulf neighbors, while Morocco sent food aid to Qatar.
In March 2026, Rabat condemned attacks targeting Gulf countries and reaffirmed its support for their sovereignty and security.
