Casablanca – The Secretary-General of Progress and Socialism Party (PPS), Nabil Benabdellah, has stated that the process of forming the government coalition has grown more complex because of Chabat’s statement on Mauritania.

The PPS Secretary-General Nabil Benabdellah gave a statement following his meeting with the appointed Head of Government Abdelilah Benkirane on December 30.

Benabdellah explained that the statements of the Secretary-General of the Independence Party, Hamid Chabat, regarding the territorial integrity of Mauritania, have made the process of government formation even more complex.

“After the meeting I held with Abdelilah Benkirane, and following a number of measures he took, most recently with Akhannouch and Laansar, I can say that we were in a situation for a couple of weeks, and now we are in a new situation…a more complex one,” pointed out Benabdellah.

The PPS leader reminded that the Independence Party has clearly and repeatedly stated its desire to join the government formation and that Benkirane has “principally” agreed to it “in his capacity as the Head of Government appointed by his Majesty.”

Benabdellah continued that his party supports this decision “while looking for compromise and consensus.”

When Chabat made his controversial statements, the parties that refused his participation clung to their decision, which ruled out the possibility of a compromise between parties in connection to forming the government.

Benabdellah added that Benkirane is between the hammer represented in continuing to hang on to the IP and the anvil of cutting it loose when he “promised” that they would take part in his government coalition.
