Rabat – Ilias Akhomach, the Moroccan international who joined Villarreal’s reserve team last year from FC Barcelona, has now been elevated to the first team of the Spanish club.

Villarreal officially announced the roster for its first team for the 2024-2025 season on its website yesterday.

Akhomach, listed as a forward, made the cut after a standout performance in the previous season.

Describing Akhomach as a talented footballer, Villarreal spotlighted his exceptional skills in the attacking third of the field, noting his potential on both the national and international football stages.

The Moroccan international has recently joined his new team’s training sessions following his bronze medal win with the Moroccan national team at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Last season, he appeared in 31 matches for Villarreal’s first team.

In July 2023, Ilias Akhomach signed a four-year contract with Villarreal CF, initially joining the reserves in the Segunda División.

By December, he scored his first goal in a 3-2 Europa League away win against Stade Rennais. In January, he netted his first La Liga goal in a 5-3 away victory over his former club, Barcelona.

Although born in Spain, Akhomach is of Moroccan descent and has represented Spain at youth levels. He also played for the Morocco U15 team, winning the North African U15 championship in 2018.

In November 2023, he switched to the Morocco U23 national team and made his debut in a 3-0 friendly loss to Denmark. Akhomach further earned his first cap for the senior Morocco national team in March 2024 during a friendly match against Angola.
