Mrirt – Morocco is taking part in the International Arab League of Legends Championship, which kicked off Friday and is being hosted by the Emirates Federation for Electronic Sports.

Launched in partnership with the Arab Middle East for Esports company, the tournament also features teams from the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Tunisia, as well as squads from Montenegro and Austria, according to a Federation statement.

The Federation’s Secretary General, Saeed Ali Al Taher, said that the competition is poised to enhance Arab players’ experience and sharpen their skills to prepare for their participation in major international championships.

The opening day schedule includes the competition’s quarter-final matches, with Syria facing Tunisia in the first game, followed by Morocco taking on Montenegro. Egypt will meet Austria, while the United Arab Emirates will compete against Lebanon.

Morocco’s growing gaming sector

Morocco’s gaming sector has been growing as the government continues to invest efforts in developing this nascent sector in the country.

The Moroccan government has recently approved a new decree that significantly expanded the responsibilities of its Communications Department to include gaming. The decree is set to develop plans to grow the country’s video game industry.

The North African country organized the first Morocco Exhibition for Electronic Games Industry in May 2024, aiming to foster the industry and demonstrate its technical, financial, and educational components.

Reports show Morocco’s flourishing investment in the video gaming sector. A recent report from the German statistics website Statista indicated that the country’s business in the field is expected to increase at an annual rate of 9.39% between 2024 and 2027. According to Statista, the country’s sales figures will namely jump from $227.3 million in 2024 to $297.5 million by 2027.
