Judicial police in Casablanca seized 10 tons and 300 kilograms of cannabis on Wednesday.
A statement from the General The operation took place in the early hours of this morning, resulting in thwarting a major international drug trafficking attempt, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.
According to the statement, the operation was carried out after police received accurate intelligence from the General Directorate for National Territorial Surveillance (DGST).
The operation was carried out in coordination with Royal Gendarmerie units, and it resulted in the interception of two utility vehicles on the outer highway of Casablanca. The vehicles were loaded with large shipments of cannabis, the statement added.
Police apprehended the driver and his companion at the highway interchange, while the driver of the second vehicle refused to comply.

“To deter this serious attack, especially since the suspect was deliberately firing shots towards police officers and road users, one of the anti-gang squad members had to use his service weapon, firing four warning shots, while the fifth bullet hit the suspect, neutralizing the threat and apprehending him along with his companion,” the DGSN statement noted.
Police handed the cannabis seized to customs authorities for necessary measures.
The hunting rifle and the ammunition used to threaten the police were also confiscated.
Police have put the suspects in custody for further investigation to shed further light on the case and arrest more accomplices.
Meanwhile, the body of the shot suspect was transferred to the morgue for medical examination, DGSN detailed.
This operation adds to a long list of major drug trafficking attempts foiled by Moroccan security services in recent months.
Earlier this month, police seized a similar quantity of cannabis in Agadir and arrested 13 individuals suspected of being involved in drug trafficking.
