Rabat – Morocco’s local national football team is ready to face Tanzania in the quarterfinals of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024) on Friday.

However, Morocco’s coach, Tarik Sektoui, admitted during a pre-match press conference today that the team has some defensive challenges ahead of tomorrow’s decisive game.

Key players Abdelhak Assal and Marouane Louadni will miss the match due to injuries, while Bouchouaib Arrassi is suspended because of accumulated yellow cards.

Despite these absences, Sektoui said he will make the right choices to keep the team balanced against Tanzania. He stated that the team aims to reach the semifinals, then the final, and ultimately win the championship.

“The level Moroccan football has reached demands that we aim for the top in any tournament, no matter the difficulties,” Sektioui said.

When asked about the strong support Tanzania is expected to receive from its home crowd, Sektoui said his players are used to big matches in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup.

He added that the crowd could motivate the Moroccan players to perform even better, adding a special flavor to the game.

Sektoui also commended his players’ form and commitment, saying they “deserve recognition for their hard work, dedication to the national jersey, and great sense of responsibility.”

Morocco, the two-time reigning CHAN champions (2018 and 2020), have shown their class in the group stage. They opened with an impressive 2-0 win over Angola, rebounded from a rare defeat to host Kenya, then claimed consecutive 3-1 victories, first against Zambia and then against DR Congo.

Their performance earned them second place in Group A with nine points, just behind Kenya, setting up a high-stakes quarter-final against Tanzania.
