Rabat – The sports prediction platform Opta Analyst predicted Morocco’s winning rate in the opening match against Tanzania today at 62.9%, as part of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) taking place in Cote d’Ivoire.

While the platform’s supercomputer predicted Morocco’s win at 62.9% over its Tanzanian counterpart, 18% of the winning rate went to Tanzania, and 19.1% went to a match draw.

Regarding the standings ranking, Opta Analyst gave Morocco a 53.6% chance to lead the Group F standings after the group stage matches are over. 25.6% said Morocco will be ranked second, 13.6% went to Morocco being ranked third place, and 7.2% went to fourth place.

The platform went on further to predict the Atlas Lions’ performances during the knock-out stage, with 89.7% saying that the North African country will reach the round of 16.

In addition, the Moroccan team reaching the quarter-finals was predicted at 58%, the semi-finals stood at 34.7%, and the finals at 20.7%.

The platform’s calculations eventually gave Morocco the probable rate of 11.5% to lift its second trophy, given the presence of other strong teams such as Cote d’Ivoire as the host nation and the defending champion, Senegal.

Tanzania and Morocco will be playing each other at the AFCON for the first time. In their World Cup qualifying match in November of last year, Morocco prevailed 2-0 in the Tanzanian capital Dar es Salaam.

This is Morocco’s 19th time competing in the AFCON, with asole championship that was obtained in Ethiopia in 1976. The last time Morocco reached the final four was in 2004 after losing to the host nation, Tunisia.

According to the same source, Morocco has won seven of its  eight past AFCON group stage matches. The squad has also entered the competition with the second-longest active streak having scored in all nine of its AFCON games.

Morocco’s opening match against Tanzania will take place today at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in the city of San Pedro and will start at 6:00 p.m. Moroccan Time.
