Rabat – Bank Al-Maghrib has announced the issuing of a special silver coin commemorating the 70th Anniversary of the King and People’s Revolution.

The commemorative coin, with a value of 250 dirhams, pays tribute to a pivotal moment in Moroccan history and its liberation movement.

One side of the coin features the face of King Mohammed VI, surrounded by the inscriptions Mohammed VI and the Kingdom of Morocco.

The reverse side of the coin features the inscription “And the People and the King for the 70th Anniversary of the Revolution” in Arabic at the top accompanied by its French translation at the bottom. The center of the coin holds a representation of the Moroccan flag.

Morocco celebrates today the 70th anniversary of the King and People’s Revolution, an important historical event in the nation’s fight for independence from French colonialism.

Beyond its significance in the struggle for independence, this day is also a celebration of Morocco’s reigning monarchy.

On August 20, 1953, the King and People’s Revolution came as the culmination of a long-standing battle against French colonial rule.

The revolution was triggered by the forced exile of Sultan Mohammed V by French authorities, who sought to replace the monarchy with a puppet government.

The act prompted widespread protests across Morocco, with citizens from all corners of the country demanding the reinstatement of their monarch.
