Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech has reportedly decided to leave Wydad Athletic Club at the end of the current season following the expected departure of club president Hicham Aït Menna.

According to exclusive information from Africafoot, Ziyech recently informed club officials of his decision after reconsidering his future at the Casablanca-based side.

The report claims the former Chelsea and Ajax star had joined Wydad largely because of the sporting and structural project led by Aït Menna. The president’s planned departure reportedly completely changed the player’s position.

Sources close to the player say Ziyech does not want to enter another transition period at the club. Wydad are expected to undergo major administrative and technical changes this summer, creating uncertainty about the team’s future direction.

Despite receiving high-paying offers from Saudi Arabia and Qatar in recent weeks, Ziyech is reportedly prioritizing a return to the Dutch Eredivisie.

The Moroccan playmaker believes a return to a familiar environment could help him regain his best physical and technical form ahead of upcoming international competitions with Morocco.

Ziyech enjoyed the best years of his career in the Netherlands with Ajax Amsterdam and FC Twente before moving to Europe’s top leagues.

Season statistics

His statistics this season show both his quality and his recurring injury problems. In the Botola Pro, Ziyech played only nine matches and accumulated 566 minutes. However, he scored seven goals and provided two assists, averaging a goal every 81 minutes.

In the CAF Confederation Cup, the attacking midfielder played four matches and scored once. He also missed the Throne Cup campaign due to recurring injuries suffered during key moments of the season.

Overall, Ziyech ends his Wydad spell this season with 13 appearances across all competitions, eight goals, and two assists in 843 minutes played.

The departure’s effect

His expected departure would represent a major blow for Wydad both on and off the pitch. Ziyech’s arrival had significantly increased the club’s continental and international visibility.

With both Aït Menna and Hakim Ziyech expected to leave, Wydad could face a crucial rebuilding phase ahead of next season.
