Marrakech – Morocco’s General Delegation for Prison Administration and Reintegration (DGAPR) announced that 1,667 inmates passed the 2026 baccalaureate exams as independent candidates. The delegation described the results as “unprecedented” compared to all previous sessions.
The combined pass rate among incarcerated candidates reached approximately 69% across the ordinary and retake sessions. The figure reflects a significant leap in academic performance inside the country’s prison system.
Honors results were equally notable. A total of 600 inmates earned distinctions ranging from “Assez Bien” (Fairly Good) to “Bien” (Good) and “Très Bien” (Very Good). That group represents 36% of all inmates who passed. Compared to the 2025 session, the number of inmates earning such honors surged by 86.33%.
The DGAPR encouraged successful inmates to build on these achievements and continue their academic and personal development. It credited the results to the work of pedagogical and administrative staff within the prison system, alongside coordination with the Ministry of Education.
The delegation stressed that education plays a central role in supporting the reintegration of inmates into society.
The results came as part of a broader national picture. The Ministry of Education announced on Saturday, July 11, that 337,192 candidates across public and private schools passed the 2026 baccalaureate. The overall national pass rate stood at 81.6%.
The retake session added 64,586 successful candidates, with an attendance rate of 86%. Female candidates outperformed males, posting an 84.5% pass rate compared to 78.6%. Independent candidates nationally achieved a 54.5% pass rate, with 31,034 earning their diplomas across both sessions.
