Agadir – Safran Electrical & Power inaugurated a new extension to its industrial site in Temara on Tuesday, October 13, as the French aerospace group marked two decades of operations in Morocco.
The inauguration took place in the presence of Minister of Industry and Trade Ryad Mezzour and French Ambassador to Morocco Philippe Lalliot, among other officials.
The 5,700-square-meter extension brings the site’s total surface area to 31,400 square meters. It will support the expansion of civil and military aerospace programs and strengthen the facility’s capacity to manufacture electrical cables and equipment for major international aircraft manufacturers.
According to Safran, the Temara site produces nearly 93,000 electrical harnesses annually for several major aerospace programs, including the Airbus A320 and A350, Airbus Helicopters aircraft, and the H160 helicopter.
The facility employs more than 1,600 people and plays a key role in Safran’s global production network.
Safran strengthens its industrial presence in Morocco
The Temara facility began its development within Safran in 2005, following the integration of Gespec into the group. The company inaugurated the plant in 2006 and has since expanded its operations to meet growing aerospace production needs and accommodate new programs.
The latest extension reflects the group’s continued investment in Morocco’s aerospace industry and its efforts to strengthen its production capabilities to serve international clients.
“This anniversary and this new extension demonstrate the confidence Safran has placed in Morocco and its talent for the past twenty years, “said Serge Pons, executive vice president and general manager of Interconnection Systems Eurasia at Safran.
“Thanks to the commitment of our teams, the Témara site has become an essential part of our industrial network. This new milestone will enable us to support the growth of our activities and prepare for the challenges of tomorrow’s aerospace industry.”
The investment also comes as Morocco seeks to strengthen its position in global aerospace supply chains by expanding industrial capacity and developing local expertise.
Extension to support production growth and employment
The new extension will allow the Temara site to increase its production capacity and support the growth of aerospace programs, while maintaining the quality standards required by international customers.
The facility’s workforce currently exceeds 1,600 employees, while the site’s activity is expected to reach nearly two million production hours in 2026, according to information provided about the facility.
The extension is also expected to create 400 additional jobs, bringing further employment opportunities to Morocco’s aerospace sector.
During the inauguration, Mezzour welcomed Safran’s continued confidence in Morocco and praised the commitment of the teams supporting the group’s industrial activities in the country.
He also pointed to the site’s development over the past two decades as a reflection of the growth of Morocco’s industrial capabilities.
Bruno Bellanger, chairman and CEO of Safran Electrical & Power, said the expansion reflects the strength of the partnership between Morocco and the group, which is celebrating 20 years of operations in the country.
Bellanger also highlighted Safran’s investments in other activities in Morocco, including electric motors, landing brakes, and electromechanical operations at its Casablanca site.
He linked the group’s focus on electrical technologies to its ambition to achieve carbon neutrality in aviation by 2050, which includes improving engine efficiency, using sustainable aviation fuels, and developing hybrid-electric technologies.
Leila El Ghrib, president of Safran Electrical & Power Morocco, said the expansion would help the Temara facility integrate new aerospace programs, increase production capacity, and develop its industrial expertise.
She also emphasized the importance of partnerships with universities, training institutions, and schools in developing local skills and preparing workers for the site’s evolving needs.
