Rabat – Morocco is fourth on the list of foreign nationalities that bought the most property on the Spanish housing market between April and June of 2022.

With a total of 1,160 real estate properties, Moroccans accounted for 4.9% of all property purchased by foreigners in Spain, following British, German, and French nationals, according to data reported by Spanish media.

The report details that Moroccans on average look for real estate properties with a value below €300,000. The prime house-hunting locations for Moroccan nationals are mainly concentrated in the municipalities of Algeciras, Melilla, and Ceuta.

Spain’s Ocana and Ferrol are also in high demand among Moroccans looking to purchase properties.

Overall, Moroccan nationals seem to be more prone to buying real estate in Melilla and Ceuta.

In Melilla, 6% of purchases made by Moroccans fell within a €300,000 and €600,000 range, and 11% of property purchases were valued at the same range in Ceuta.

The Moroccan community in Spain

Moroccans make up the largest non-EU foreign community in Spain with 879,943 Moroccan nationals, some estimates suggest.

Official data from the Spanish government suggests that Moroccans are also the largest non-EU foreign workers contributing to the social security safety net in the country.

In a report released earlier this year, the Spanish Ministry of Inclusion reported that over 300,000 Moroccans were officially registered and contributing to Spain’s social security at the end of April 2022.
