Rabat – The annual operation welcomes Moroccan expatriates for summer vacation. Last year, Marhaba was suspended due to COVID-19 outbreak.

Around 800 members of the Moroccan community abroad participated in the 2021 Operation Marhaba which aims to facilitate travel to Morocco for the diaspora, by taking a ferry from the port of Sete, in south-eastern France to Tanger Med.

The operation is the first Sete-Tanger med crossing as part of Operation Marhaba.

The diaspora members took off from Sete through a GNV ferry.

The check-in and boarding operation took place in good conditions and in full compliance with the health provisions in force, state media reported.

Morocco’s consulate general, as part of Operation Marhaba, is providing assistance to support and facilitate administrative and customs procedures.

The consul general of Morocco in Montpellier, Nouzha Sahel, and other members in the consulate, along with Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity staff supervised the operation.

Sahel said that the consulate’s mobilization is in line with royal instructions.

Last week, King Mohammed VI ordered the government and transportation companies to work together to facilitate the return of Moroccans residing abroad for summer holiday.

The King also ordered companies to offer affordable prices for flights and ferry tickets as thousands of expatriates scramble to buy tickets following a lengthy border closure.

Maritime companies in Morocco agreed to reduce price tickets to €995 for a family of four people for long-haul lines, the ministry announced.

Companies also reduced prices to € 450 for medium-haul lines.

Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc has also announced discounted prices for Moroccans residing abroad, tourists, and students in response to  the royal instructions.
