Rabat – After last year’s absence, Casablanca’s Boulevard festival is back for its 2017 edition, promising a variety of musical acts showcasing talent from all over the world, from Sept. 15 to 24.

Faithful to its principles, the musical rendezvous aims to discover new musical voices. Nineteen rap, hip-hop, rock, metal, and fusion bands have been selected among 159 candidates to compete for the “Tremplin” talent show from Sept. 15 to 17 at the city’s Al Amal complex.

Six of them, two per category, will be rewarded by the jury. First prize winners will receive MAD 10,000 while second prize winners will receive MAD 5,000. All winners will be granted opportunity to record two pieces by award-winning, professionally-trained musicians.

From Sept. 22 to 24, the Boulevard festival will host concerts at the stadium of the R.U.C. Artists including the American hip-hop duo MOP, the Moroccan rapper Masta Flow, the French metal group Dagoba, and other Moroccan artists like Betweenatna, Oum, Keziah Jones, and Labess will come together to create a fusion of world music.

Boulevard will also hold activities on the sidelines, such as an “associative souk,” graffiti and mural painting, improv theater, a circus, trainings, and a web-radio show.

Behind the scenes, the festival’s organizers have set up formal and informal meetings for attendees to network with professionals and exchange experience. Some of these meetings will be open to general public, especially on the springboard, where a handful of collectives and cultural organizations will show off their projects and explain their approaches to amateurs and experts.

The City Council of Casablanca, through its local development company Casablanca Events and Animation, has contributed to the organization of the event.
