Rabat – The African Union is determined to restrain corruption. The 30th Ordinary Session of the AU’s Summit, scheduled to take place from January 22 to 29, 2018 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia will discuss ways to end corruption in the continent.
The African body is ambitious to start its year by curbing corruption for the sake of the sustainable development of the African continent. The AU’s 30th ordinary session of the assembly of heads of state and government will take place under the theme “Winning the Fight against Corruption: a Sustainable Path towards Africa’s Transformation,” according to AU.
The event will take place at the headquarters of the Pan-African block in Addis Ababa.
According to the AU’s agenda, the regular session of the Committee of Permanent Representatives is set to take place on January 22-23, followed by the Executive Council, which will take place on January 25-26.
These two events will be eventually followed by the 30th Ordinary Session of the Heads of State of the African Union.
The 29th African Union Summit took place on June 27 in Addis Ababa under the theme “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth.”
Morocco is set to participate in the AU’s thirtieth summit. The North African country made its comeback to the African body on January 31 after 33 years of absence due to political issues over Western Sahara. Thirty-nine countries supported Morocco’s bid to join the body.
Nine countries, however, stood against the decision, including Algeria that was using Morocco’s position on Western Sahara to block its return to the African Union.
