Rabat – A new sexual assault scandal has made international headlines. This time, the accused attacker is Kelvin Hopkins, member of British Labour Party.

Hopkins was suspended on November 2,  after Labour activist Ava Etemadzadeh accused him of harassing her and sending her inappropriate text messages, reported British news outlet BBC.

Etemadzadeh also claimed that Hopkins hugged her inappropriately after a student event in 2014.

The activist said that Hopkins told her during a conversation in parliament to “not talk about politics,” asking her instead if she had a boyfriend.

She explained that Hopkins told her “if nobody was in his office he would have taken [her] there.”

“I was absolutely shocked and I was not really expecting that,” she told BBC.

Etemadzadeh said that she tried to avoid talking to him after this encounter. She explained that after she refused to respond to his calls, he sent her a text message saying “that [she is] an attractive, lovely young woman and a man would be lucky to have [her] as a lover and if he was young… but he is not,” according to BBC.

The 76-year old denied the activist’s claims through his lawyers. In a statement, his solicitors denied that Hopkins had acted inappropriately at the student event in 2014.

Hopkins claimed that he simply put an arm around Etemadzadeh “to give her a brief, slight hug just before getting into my car,” reported BBC.

“I did not hold her tight, I did not rub any part of my body, let alone my crotch, against Ava.”

However, Hopkins admitted that he sent her text messages saying she was “charming and sweet-natured.” He also admitted that he sent her a message where he said she is a young woman and man would be nice to have her as a girlfriend. Hopkins claims that she replied to his message.
