The fans of Moroccan football club Raja Casablanca spent a memorable night of celebrations after their team won its 12th local league title.

Fans in Casablanca, and elsewhere, took to the streets to express their joy for their team winning the Botola Pro 1 title, something Raja Casablanca has not achieved since 2013.

Green was the predominant color in the streets, with fans wearing Raja jerseys and carrying the team’s flags. Until early morning hours, all Casablanca residents could hear were exploding fireworks and Raja anthems.

Celebrations did not only take place in Morocco. Viral videos from last night show Raja fans celebrating their club’s achievement from Paris, France.

Footage shows fans singing and lighting green fireworks while standing on the shore of the Seine river.

Exciting title race

The all-night celebrations came after a suspenseful and exciting ending to the 2019-2020 Botola Pro 1.

Raja Casablanca was only able to secure its title thanks to a last-minute goal by Abdelilah Hafidi. If Raja had not scored, the Botola Pro 1 title would have gone to their eternal rival Wydad Casablanca.

Hafidi’s goal unleashed a frenzy among Raja fans, players, and staff, and put an end to the club’s seven-year wait for a domestic league title.

At the end of the competition, only one point separated the two Casablanca giants, Raja and Wydad.

This year’s triumph is Raja Casablanca’s 12th league title. The achievement makes them the second-most titled team in Morocco, behind Wydad. The Reds, as fans have dubbed them, have won 20 league titles in their history.

The joy of Raja players and the disappointment of Wydadis, however, will be short-lived, as the two rivals will face Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC next weekend in the continental CAF Champions League semi-finals.

Wydad will play against Al Ahly on Saturday, October 17, while Raja will face Zamalek on Sunday, October 18.

If both Moroccan teams qualify to the CAF Champions League final, Wydad will have an opportunity to avenge its lost league title, while Raja will get the chance to assert dominance over its eternal rival.
