Morocco now hosts the new headquarters of the African Volleyball Confederation (CAVB) after its inauguration on February 16 in Rabat.

The President of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), Ary S. Graça chaired the opening of the CAVB’s new headquarters with the confederation’s President Bouchra Hajij.

Morocco’s Ministry of National Education and Sports Chakib Benmoussa joined Vice-president of the Association of the National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Kamal Lahlou, as well as CAVB Board members and executives in attending the inauguration.

Hajij expressed pride for such a moment, adding that the day of the inauguration “is so dear to her heart.”

Of the new headquarters, CAVB’s president explained that it will provide an impetus “with incredible working conditions as we strive to create a more transparent, great and supportive environment for the CAVB.”

Hajij said that this inauguration aims to establish a framework for the components of African volleyball to exchange ideas and focus on ways to develop the sport.

She expressed her excitement to welcome everyone to the new headquarters. “This will allow us to work even harder to develop volleyball in Africa,” said President Hajij.

On the sidelines of the inauguration, the FIVB’s president said that “the incredible CAVB’s new headquarters is an important moment,” expressing aspiration for further “work of setting up partnerships with national federations, which are key to creating a strong volleyball community and having strong national teams.”

Garça vowed that the FIVB will always support and empower the African continent in terms of volleyball. He concluded his statement by urging for constant “support and guidance of Hajij in her efforts to better volleyball in Africa.”

Meanwhile, Benmoussa pondered that Graça’s presence at this ceremony is an indication of the strong cooperation between the sport’s African body and its international federation in order to develop the sport in Africa.

The General Assembly of the African body was held on October 25, 2020 and marked by the election of Ms. Bouchra Hajij as president of the Royal Moroccan Federation of the discipline.

Hajij was elected president of the CAVB in October 2020 for the period 2020-2024, during a general assembly held by video conference.
