Rabat – The United States Center for Disease Control (CDC) has moved Morocco to the list of Low COVID-19 Risk travel list on Monday.
After occupying the CDC’s list of travel destinations with moderate COVID-19 risk for almost a month, Morocco is back on the list of Level 1 COVID-19 risk countries. The list features countries with less than 50 cases reported over the 28 days leading to the evaluation date.
The news comes almost 10 days after Morocco reported record low levels of infections.
While the Moroccan health ministry continues to conduct thousands of tests every day, infection rates have sharply dropped across the country.
Morocco’s free vaccination campaign is still ongoing, with the authorities continuing to encourage citizens to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 despite signs of the end of the pandemic.
The latest data indicate that 23.4 million of Morocco’s population have already received two vaccine shots, 6.8 received a booster shot, and 44,016 people have received a fourth dose.
During the first two weeks of September, Moroccan hospitals held 11 patients suffering from severe COVID-19 complications, with three people in intensive care units. The occupation of Intensive Care Units stood at 0.21% in Morocco as of early September.
While the country remains under a national state of emergency, life has almost returned to pre-pandemic conditions as COVID anxiety seems to be wearing off amid the considerable decline in the national infection rates.
