Rabat – African Women in Media (AWiM), a non-governmental NGO for women in the media industry, announced on Saturday holding its sixth annual conference in Morocco’s Fez.
The event brings together academics, industry experts, civil society, and policy actors to share insights and best practices on how to make Africa’s media industry a level playing field for women.
The conference is jointly organized by the International Institute for Languages and Cultures, Isis Center for Women and Development, and Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University at Fez. The event is scheduled to take place on December 8 and 9.
It will feature over 90 speakers, panel discussions, workshops, and roundtables under the theme “United in Action.”
A number of academics are set to deliver presentations at the event including Amina Lemrini, Kenza Oumlil, Belinda Nadine Nyanhete, Catherine Therrien, Ke Cai, Sherehan Hamdallah, Ere Mendie Amapamoere Jennifer and Nonhlanhla Ndlovu and many more.
Discussions are set to cover a wide range of topics under three sub-themes: Gender Equality in and through Media, Collective Action and Representation, and Media Business and Global Challenges, according to a press release from organizers.
In a statement, organizers explain that the theme “United in Action” refers to the union of all stakeholders to achieve gender equality.
“The AWiM 2022 conference is guided by an ethos of shared best practices and collaborative action to impact positively the way media functions in relation to African women,” organizers said in the statement.
AWiM Co-founder and CEO Yemisi Akinbobola said, “We are filled with excitement and anticipation as our sixth annual conference draws closer.”
The co-founder expressed satisfaction at working with the International Institute for Languages and Cultures (INLAC), alongside Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University and Isis Center for Women and Development, to organize AWiM 2022 conference.
