Rabat – Following the tragic news of the death of iconic singer, and artist, Mohamed El Ghaoui, Moroccans and celebrities took to social media to grieve their loss and pay their respects.
Prominent Moroccan singer Latifa Raafat wrote yesterday on Instagram: “We belong to Allah, and to him shall we return… May Allah have mercy on you, dear brother, friend, and comrade.”
“You were first to do your duty and extend help to others… May God have mercy on you and grant us patience to bear your loss. May God have mercy on you, dear precious one,” the post read.
Attached to the post were pictures of the two artists smiling happily.
Another renowned Moroccan celebrity and show host, Allali Rachid, shared a picture of the late singer captioned “We belong to Allah, and to him shall we return.”
Moroccan actor Rachid Lwali also took to social media to extend his respect, sharing an Instagram post that read: “It is with sorrow that I have received the news of the death of brother Mohammed El Ghaoui, which was the result of a coma in which he entered for nearly a month.”
On a concluding note, he sent his condolences to El Ghaoui’s family “small and large.”

Moroccan signer Saad Lmjaraad also took to Instagram to pay his respects, posting a picture of the late singer captioned: “May God have mercy on my beloved, the great teacher Mohammed El Ghaoui…”

El Ghaoui passed away on Saturday at the age of 67 from a cerebral hemorrhage.
The artist was pronounced dead after undergoing an emergency operation at the military hospital in Rabat on Saturday.
Born in Rabat’s twin city Sale in 1956, the late singer is among the pioneers of Moroccan music. Throughout his life, El Ghaoui left a rich collection of nearly 80 songs inspired by Moroccan folklore music.
