Rabat – Premier League club Brentford FC are considering signing Azzedine Ounahi before the transfer window closes on September 1. The Moroccan international, who is unhappy with his current situation at Olympique de Marseille (OM), is open to a move, according to the British press Daily Mail.
This means Azzedine Ounahi could land in the Premier League in the last days of the transfer, with converging reports indicating that Brentford are desperate for midfield reinforcements following injuries to Shandon Baptiste and Josh Dasilva.
Ounahi was one of the stars of the Qatar 2022 World Cup. The Moroccan player sparked interest from clubs of all over Europe, including FC Barcelona and Premier League teams. However, he decided to stay in Ligue 1, replacing Angers SCO with OM.
While he is under contract with OM until June 2027, the Moroccan player has made just 12 appearances since his January transfer. The situation seems to have prompted him to consider a transfer, while the English club is keen to give him an important role.
This comes as Brentford have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Premier League season, drawing Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal Palace while beating Fulham FC. But with the English team having seemed at times to lack creativity, they are reportedly keen to sign Ounahi and give him an important role in their midfield.
The Marseille star could help solve this problem, but it remains to be seen whether the Velodrome club will agree to let the Moroccan playmaker leave.
Last season, Ounahi missed 12 games due to a fractured toe, which forced him to miss 81 days of club and national team competition.
