Rabat – The Royal Armed Forces established a military camp in the Amizmiz community on September 14, providing shelter for nearly 3,000 people who were left homeless after last Friday’s earthquake.
In addition to providing shelter, the armed forces are also providing victims with food, drink, as well as basic medical services.
Close to the local hospital of the Amizmiz community, the camp includes 250 tents, each housing 12 individuals from one or two families with beds and blankets.
This number is still expected to increase as the camp is being expanded and will soon receive other families. The camp will be able to provide about 18,000 meals and approximately 36,000 loaves of bread per day, the camp’s administrators assured.
To provide this large amount of supplies, the camp has a mobile bakery and a food store, operating under the supervision of Royal Armed Forces officials.
The care of children is another component of the aid offered by the military camp, as there is a school environment as well as a recreational area.
So far, the deadly September 8 earthquake has taken nearly 3,000 lives and has left over 5,500 injured.
