Rabat – Several provinces in Morocco are set to see strong thunderstorms with hail on Saturday and Sunday, the country’s General Directorate of Meteorology (DGM) said today in its latest weather alert.
The DGM issued an “orange” weather alert, predicting strong thunderstorms averaging between 25 to 45 millimeters with hail from Saturday at 2:00 p.m. to Sunday at 6:00 a.m.
The list of provinces expected to see thunderstorms includes Figuig, Guercif, Driouch, Oujda-Angad, Berkane, Jerada, Taourirt, Nador, Boulemane, Midelt, Taza, and Al Hoceima.
According to the DGM’s alert, thunderstorms averaging between 15 to 25 millimeters are also expected to hit the provinces of Casablanca, Mohammadia, Benslimane, Skhirate-Temara, Settat, Rabat, Sale, and Kenitra between Saturday at 10:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
The weather alert comes after the country witnessed one of its hottest summers ever recorded.
On August 11, Morocco experienced a record-breaking temperature, marking a precedent for the North African country.
