Rabat – In response to recent complaints from tourists over misplaced bags, the Casablanca Mohammed V (CMN) airport established a coordination unit to address any issues arising from delays in connecting baggage delivery.

According to a joint press release from the Moroccan airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) and the Moroccan Airports Authority (ONDA), there has been a disruption in connecting luggage processing at Terminal 1 of the airport over the last week.

This issue is the result of a change in the screening process, which has caused serious delays in the luggage’s transit route, the same source explained.

In the midst of this controversy, the airport established a coordination unit and brought together all of its partners, including customs, the General Directorate for National Security (DGSN), and the Royal Gendarmerie, to put in place the necessary measures and resources to expedite the return to normal of handling connecting baggage.

The approved action plan calls for bolstering the personnel of all concerned parties, especially the handler and its subcontractors, running new areas at T2 and T3 for baggage sorting and control. It also involves training the handler’s agents in using T1’s automated baggage sorting system.

ONDA and RAM reassured passengers concerned with these delays that the relevant teams are closely collaborating with all partners to ensure the speedy delivery of luggage to the intended destinations.

Earlier in 2023, numerous passengers, especially those  flying with RAM, took to social media expressing frustration on the agonizing experience of losing their luggage at the CMN Airport.

In a few of the videos that were sent to Morocco World News (MWN), a Moroccan national was seen losing his temper at the airport, saying that his misplaced bags had been missing for four days.

“Bring back my luggage, it has my medicines, I am going to die. Bring it to me now. Shame on you, I have been waiting here for four days. I paid my ticket. Give me back my medicines,” the passenger angrily lamented at the airport.
