Rabat – According to Spanish news source El Mundo, forty irregular Moroccan migrants, six of them minors, swam across Ceuta border on Sunday to reach the Spanish enclave.
Despite the area being affected by a strong downpour, the agency stated that the migrants arrived in Ceuta between Sunday at 3 p.m. and Monday at 9:30 a.m.
The same source added that numerous individuals sustained injuries from coming into touch with sea rocks and needed Red Cross medical assistance. More than twenty people got medical attention for different types of injuries and cuts.
With the majority of them having access to Benzu’s northern breakwater, which borders the narrow stretch that separates the coasts of Spain and Morocco, the Red Cross had to organize a special operation to offer treatment.
More than twenty of these migrants required medical assistance from the humanitarian organization due to various injuries they sustained after striking the rocks.
The Spanish Civil Guard issued a warning, saying that when inclement weather arrives, there is typically a spike in entrance attempts because immigrants believe there is less security in the region.
According to the Civil Guard, migrants also believe that bad weather generally helps them navigate due to the strong waves that drag them to the coast of Ceuta.
The forty entries that were recorded in less than a day is the highest number of illegal accesses that has been registered since the beginning of the year.
According to the information website for migrants, Info Migrants, Morocco’s army prevented around 1,100 migrants from entering the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla on New Year’s Eve. However, in 2023, almost 1,700 people were able to enter Spanish territory.
