Rabat – The French daily Le Parisien revealed today that French footballer Kylian Mbappe will join Spanish club Real Madrid post the expiration of his current club, Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), at the end of the season.
According to the American sports channel ESPN, Mbappe had received a contract offer from Real Madrid, and the player will reportedly make an announcement on his decision to sign with the Spanish club next week.
Converging reports say that while Mbappe has made his choice on his potential transfer, he has not yet notified Real Madrid or PSG.
When Mbappe’s contract with the Ligue 1 team ended at the conclusion of the 2023–24 season, he said that he would not extend it, allowing him to sign a free transfer to another team.
In light of the upcoming Olympic Games that will take place next summer in Paris, Mbappe’s negotiations with Real Madrid will be centered on the French player’s intentions to be able to perform on his home soil.
According to an ESPN source, Mbappe rejected a wage increase from PSG based on his gross income of €72 million. In addition, Mbappe would forgo bonuses totaling about €100 million if he decides to depart his squad as a free agent, and will likely make half as much in Madrid.
Growing up, the captain for the French national football team was a fan of football icons Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. As he has always dreamed of playing for Real Madrid, Mbappe now thinks it is the appropriate moment in his career to settle in the Spanish capital.
In case of a departure, PSG will reportedly select Portuguese forward Rafael Leao of AC Milan as Mbappe’s successor.
