Gaza Death Toll Hits 39,000 Amid Mass Evacuations in Khan Younis

The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli devastating war on Gaza has climbed to 39,006, with 89,818 wounded, since October 7. However, many believe the actual number to be much higher, after a report by British journal The Lancet revealed that the true death toll could be 186,000 accounting for those still missing under the rubble.

Rabat – The Palestinian death toll from the Israeli devastating war on Gaza has climbed to 39,006, with 89,818 wounded, since October 7. However, many believe the actual number to be much higher, after a report by British journal The Lancet revealed that the true death toll could be 186,000 accounting for those still missing under the rubble.

Gaza’s Health Ministry reported today that 23 Palestinians were killed and 91 wounded in the past 24 hours in three separate attacks across the enclave. These figures do not include casualties from a new Israeli assault on eastern Khan Younis.

The new death toll announcement comes as thousands of Palestinians are once again fleeing in mass after Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) ordered the evacuation of areas in Khan Younis. The Palestinian Civil Defence stated that the order impacts over 400,000 people in the area.

An Al Jazeera reporter noted that residents were given minimal time to evacuate, with Israeli attacks commencing shortly after evacuation leaflets were distributed. Al Jazeera also released images showing Palestinians fleeing Khan Younis as Israeli attacks began.

Displaced Palestinians have reported that the designated evacuation area of al-Mawasi in southern Gaza is already overwhelmed. “Even the sidewalks are full of people and tents,” Youssef Abu Taimah from al-Qarara in Khan Younis told Al Jazeera. “We are tired and fed up. Enough of this displacement and migration.”

Ahmed al-Bayouk, a 53-year-old from Khan Younis, echoed these sentiments, saying: “We barely settle for a few days before the army comes, bombs, displaces us, and destroys more. Where should we go? Every place is at risk of bombing.”

The IOF issued a notice ordering residents of eastern Khan Younis to move to al-Mawasi as they warned of impending forceful operations in the area.
