Rabat– Moroccan athletes made history today by sweeping the podium at the Moscow Marathon, showcasing their dominance in long-distance running.
Youness Bennar led the way with an impressive finish time of 2:11:34, narrowly edging out compatriot El Mahjoub Dazza, who completed the race in 2:11:38. Russian runner Dmitriy Nedelin secured third place with a time of 2:11:40.
This remarkable performance not only highlights Morocco’s growing prowess in athletics but also adds to a series of notable achievements by Moroccan runners on the international stage.
Now in its 12th year, the Moscow Marathon has become a prestigious event on the global running calendar, attracting thousands of participants from around the world. Renowned for its well-organized course, vibrant atmosphere, and stunning city backdrop, the race is recognized by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF).
Often regarded as the greatest middle-distance runner of all time, Hicham El Guerrouj holds world records in the 1500 meters and the mile, as well as two Olympic gold medals from 1996 and 2000.
